Maria, Irma, & Harvey: 10 Ways to Help

With the recent news of the impact of Hurricanes Maria, Harvey, and Irma Breakthrough Design Group wanted to know how we could help so we put together a list of Organizations that are providing immediate and/or long-term help to the victims of these disasters. We have vetted these charities through ChartityNavigator.org and did our own research into what was being said about each on the internet.

If you would like to help out, here are our top 10 places:

3 Ways to Help Maria Victims (Puerto Rico and Domenica):

Hurricane Maria was the tenth-most intense Atlantic hurricane on record, the worst natural disaster in Dominica in its recorded history, and the strongest hurricane to make landfall in Puerto Rico since 1928.

MedShare

Working to send necessary medical supplies to Puerto Rico and Domenica by coordinating donations of physical items and transportation.

Project HOPE

Project HOPE is on the ground responding to urgent health needs in Puerto Rico — needs that are growing by the hour for children, families, and the elderly.

Save the Children

Relief experts are on the ground right now, doing whatever it takes to care for the most vulnerable in any emergency: children.

3 Ways to Help Harvey Victims (Texas region):

As this storm primarily affected Texas and surrounding areas, the following charities are mainly located in that region.

Houston Humane Society Harvey Fund

Not only helping strays found but also providing medical assistance to pets and helping to distribute donations that they do not have an immediate need for (ex. Cattle feed)

Houston Food Bank Harvey Disaster Relief Fund

They are committed to providing food and supplies during the immediate need and also in the long term as recovery will be a slow process.

Greater Houston Community Foundation Hurricane Relief

After receiving an overwhelming number of inquiries from citizens and companies who want to help, Mayor Sylvester Turner and County Judge Ed Emmett have established the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund that will accept tax-deductible flood relief donations for victims affected by the recent floods. The fund will be housed at the Greater Houston Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity.

3 Ways to Help Irma Victims (Caribbean, Florida, SE USA):

Irma is the most powerful hurricane to form over the Atlantic Ocean. Its impact is widespread including the Eastern Caribbean and South Eastern United States.

Americares

Americares deployed emergency response experts in the Caribbean and the U.S. to assist in relief efforts for communities in the path of Hurricane Irma, one of the most powerful Atlantic hurricanes ever recorded.

International Relief Teams Hurricane Irma Fund

International Relief Teams have medical teams ready to deploy to areas where medical services may have been compromised by the storm.

Direct Relief

Direct Relief is communicating with the Florida Association of Community Health Centers, as well as the Asociacion de Salud Primaria de Puerto Rico to assess the needs of healthcare clinics that have been impacted.

1 Way to Help Maria, Harvey, and Irma Victims:

One America Appeal

The One America Appeal for Hurricane Relief was started by all 5 living Former Presidents to encourage their fellow citizens to support recovery efforts. 100 cents out of every dollar donated goes to hurricane recovery. All monies collected will be distributed immediately to the designated recovery funds.

While the initial outpouring of help is needed and welcome, please remember the victims in the months ahead and make a plan for a follow-up donation in a few months.
